We the Muslim People of Northern Province of Sri Lanka ethnically cleansed In October 1990, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) expelled our entire Muslim population of five districts in the North of Sri Lanka. Close to 75,000 northern Muslims were summarily evicted and most of our assets confiscated. Since then we the Northern Province Muslim people of Sri Lanka seeking justice for our plight.

The Muslims of Jaffna had experienced ethnic cleansing even before the term ‘ethnic cleansing’ was coined. “It was on these grounds that just over 25 years ago the Muslim community of Jaffna was gathered and told to leave their homes. The subsequent years were a very dark period in their lives. The damage, of course, was not just to buildings, like these ones, but also to people. There was great suffering, and the effects of that suffering are still being felt today. Without reliable access to schools like Osmania, a whole generation of young people suffered from limited educational opportunities. I know that this community – like the rest of Jaffna, the Northern Province, and all of Sri Lanka – are still rebuilding and recovering,”

இனச்சுத்திகரிப்பு என்ற சொல்லாடல் வழக்கிற்கு வருவதற்கு முன்னமே யாழ்ப்பாண மக்கள் இனச்சுத்திகரிப்பின் அவலங்களை அனுபவித்திருக்கின்றார்கள்; நாங்கள் இப்போது ஒன்றுகூடியிருக்கின்ற இதே மைதானத்திலேயே 25 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னர் இந்த மக்கள் அழைக்கப்பட்டு இங்கிருந்து வெளியேறுமாறு பணிக்கப்பட்டார்கள். ஒரு இருண்ட யுகத்தை அவர்கள் கடந்திருக்கின்றார்கள், அவர்களது கட்டிடங்களும் வீடுகளும் மட்டும் அழிக்கப்படவில்லை, இந்த மக்களின் வாழ்வும் அழிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கின்றது. அந்த அவலங்கள் இன்றுவரை தொடர்கின்றன. இன்றும் இந்த மக்களும் இவர்களின் அடுத்த சந்ததியினரும் போதுமான வசதிகளின் இன்றி அல்லல்படுகின்றார்கள். இவர்கள் ஒரு முழுமையான மீள்கட்டுமானத்தினையும், மீள் உருவாக்கத்தையும் வேண்டி நிற்கின்றார்கள்.

It is shocking news that The Tamil Speaking Muslims living in the north were forcibly expelled by the LTTE. It has happened for some reason. The war is now over. The Muslim people who lived here have been able to live in their native areas again. We should see this as a positively. The Muslim people must strengthen their livelihood (Trade and Commerce) systems and win the hearts of other people living here. That is my advice to you.

வடக்கிலே வாழ்ந்த இஸ்லாமியத் தமிழர்கள் விடுதலைப் புலிகளினால் பலவந்தமாக வெளியேற்றப்பட்டார்கள் என்பது மிகவும் அதிர்ச்சியான செய்தியே. அது ஏதோ ஒரு காரணத்தினால் நிகழ்ந்திருக்கின்றது. இப்போது யுத்தம் முடிவுக்கு வந்துவிட்டது. இங்கு வாழ்ந்த இஸ்லாமிய மக்களுக்கு மீண்டும் தங்களது பூர்வீகப் பிரதேசங்களில் வாழ்வதற்கு வழி ஏற்பட்டிருக்கின்றது. இதனை நாம் சாதகாமகப் பார்க்கவேண்டும். முஸ்லிம் மக்கள் தங்களுடைய வாழ்வாதார முறைமைகளைப் பலப்படுத்த வேண்டும், அதனூடாக இங்கு வாழ்கின்ற ஏனைய மக்களின் உள்ளங்களை வென்றெடுக்கவேண்டும். அதுவே நான் உங்களுக்குக் கூறுகின்ற அறிவுரையாக இருக்கும்.
